How schools got Creative
●
ASPECIAL arts programme by Halton’s primary schools centred around the Mersey Gateway is coming to a Runcorn theatre.
Creative Connections 2 will be held at The Brindley from Saturday, January 14, to Saturday, February 18.
The exhibition is the culmination of a special programme for Halton primary schools developed in partnership with the Mersey Gateway Project.
Construction consortium Merseylink worked with Halton Borough Council and the Accent Music Education Hub to support Creative Connections, a programme of artists in residence working across the arts on three themes linked to the construction of the new Mersey crossing.
The topics include Halton’s natural environment, design and construction related to bridge building, and history from the area.
Led by Halton Borough Council, and developed in consultation with artists and teachers, the work has involved 19 primary schools in Halton and aimed to encourage pupils to think imaginatively about Halton’s new bridge and road project.
Bridgewater Park Primary, Brookfields, Gorsewood Primary, St Bede’s Catholic Infant, St Edward’s Catholic Primary and The Brow Community Primary were schools which all worked with artists Kate Bufton, Jojo Gleave, Handstand Films, One Red Shoe and Angela Sidwell.
Between them they explored all the themes and creating new work in film, relief panels, sculpture, willow and book art.
The programme was supported by Accent Music Education Hub, the Arts & Cultural Education Commission and Merseylink, which is provided funding to subsidise the costs of schools’ participation.
Admission is free is open between 10am and 5pm on weekdays and from 10am to 3pm on Saturdays.
