A car’s crashed through your front window? That’s not an emergency...

-

● A FAMILY left with a gaping hole in their home after a car smashed through their front window claim they were told by their insurance company: “It’s not an emergency”.

The vehicle drove into the home in Hale Village on Sunday, January 22, running down a fence and into the family’s parked car, before smashing into the hallway, taking out a portion of their wall and a structural beam.

But, despite being left with a giant hole in the house, the family say insurers LV told them they couldn’t send anyone out to help until Monday.

The accident happened while the family, with two young children and their 70-year-old grandmother were in the house.

Chris Wallis, whose uncle owns the property, said: “We’ve been on the phone to LV insurance since 9am this morning (Sunday) – they say it’s not an emergency.

“We’ve spoken to about 15 different people but there’s nothing they can do, they are saying. They kept telling us it’s not a home emergency, it’s a building problem and don’t work weekends.”

Chris said he called LV at 9am and waited four hours before having to cal back. Eventually a man was sent round with the brief he was simply patching up a hole.

But Chris says, when the man saw the extent of the damage, he said he couldn’t touch it because it was too serious - leaving the family to face a night with part of the front wall of their home missing.

A spokesman for LV said: “We are very sorry for the initial problems our customers experienced following the damage to their home at what we realise must have been a stressful time for them.

“A loss adjuster was appointed on Sunday to help them arrange the appropriate repairs to their home. We pride ourselves on the service that we provide our customers when they need to make a claim and will be reviewing this case and what lessons we can learn.”

A Cheshire police spokesman said: “Officers attended the scene and are continuing their enquiries.”
