Bowling Club’s three-mendous finish secures victory over Goldmine

ON Monday evening the Widnes Bowling Club 501 League continued.

The Goldmine at home to Widnes Bowling Club took the first game through Barry Noonan. Tommy Robertson then levelled for the Bowler.

The Goldmine took the lead again through Sean Bell, and again the Bowler levelled, this time through their opening pair, Alex McGill & Joe Batty (19 darts).

The Goldmine rallied taking the next two games via Graham Littlemore & Mick Glynn and Sean Bell & Liam Jackson.

This lead was soon lost, however, as Widnes Bowling Club took the final three games and the match as Joe Batty, Dave Gerrard (15 darts), and Alex McGill were all successful on the oche.

The Majors Arms at home to the Wellington conceded the first five games to the visitors’ Anton Conroy, Ste Whitfield, Anthony Hall (18 darts and 154 finish), Anthony Hall & S Whitfield (18 darts) and Lol Fonterigo & Karl Whitfield.

The Majors recovered a point through Andy O’Grady & Kev Grice, but then the Wellington continued their match-winning form taking the remaining three games through Terry Roach, Karl Whitfield and Mark Tyrer.

The Mersey Hotel at home to Simms Cross Institute saw Tony Green take the first game for the Stute.

Rob Cotty then levelled for the Mersey.

The Stute responded with three in a row from Paul Batty, Brian Abbott & Paul Batty and Andy Abbott & Glyn Owen.

The Mersey were still in with a chance as Ray Cowley & John Cotty took the next game. However, that chance ended as a win from Brian Abbott ensured the Stute’s victory with two contests still to play.

John Cotty took the penultimat­e one for the Mersey whilst Glyn Owen was successful in the final game, adding to the Simms Cross Institutes’ already-winning score.

The Mill Brow SC at home to the Millfield took the first game through Jack Dunn.

Dave Sutton then levelled for the Millfield.

A further two wins from Brian Spruce and Chris Bright & Neil Platt gave the Brow a healthy lead.

The Millfield recovered a point through Chris Taylor & Ian Wall, but to no avail as the Mill Brow took the remaining four games and the match via Mark Harrison & Eric Peel, Paul Linger, Tommy Owens and Kevin Helps.

Widnes RUFC at home to Halton Stadium conceded all nine games to the Stadium’s Neil Ward, John Kilkenny, Kenny Murphy, Joe Price & Neil Ward, Alan Magee & Joe Kelly, John Bowles & Colin Rigby, John Bowles, Joe Kelly and Alan Clark.
