MEDIA make-up students at a Halton college have been exposed to new career prospects and work experience opportunities with the appointment of a new tutor.

Jenna Hacking has become a lecturer at Riverside College.

She is a professional hair and make-up artist with 16 years of high profile experience and provided full prosthetics for actors in the 2016 Hollywood film The Girl With All the Gifts.

Jenna has a degree in makeup artistry and has undergone specialist training in New York, Japan and London.

Since starting in September, Jenna has been very impressed with the progress of her students.

She said: “My own college ● education wasn’t the best and I could see as I built up connections in London that the standard of training and knowledge was so much more advanced; I wanted to bring that high level to the North West.

“Compared to when I was at college, the students at Riverside are well ahead and learning fast, I am very proud of them.”

Jenna continues to work freelance alongside her new teaching role which has benefitted her students enormously.

She has been able to use her connections to provide high profile work opportunities for her students by bringing them along to events to help out and improve their CVs with industry experience.

Student Chloe Green from Runcorn accompanied Jenna to the North West Fashion Festival in October.

Chloe worked as part of the team applying make-up for the catwalk models under head make-up artist Melanie Doyle.

Megan Ody and Chloe Jackwent to Media City as Jenna’s assistants to work on a music video for singer Ashleigh Wood. Olivia Wilding had the opportunity to work as an assistant for celebrity fashion brand, Gorgeous Couture, where Jenna is the head makeup artist.

Next year awarding body City & Guilds will be introducing improved changes to the media makeup course and Jenna is preparing already with updated lessons based on industry standard practices.

She said: “I am looking forward to the planned changes for next year. I am planning exciting projects and more work experience opportunities for my students which will help to create top industry standard make-up artists.”
