Welly and Stadium’s cloud nine

ON Monday evening in the Widnes & District Darts League, the Widnes Bowling Club 501 League continued.

Halton Stadium at home to the Goldmine were in unstoppabl­e form as they took all nine games.

Alan Magee (96 finish), John Bowles (13 darts), Alan Clark (16 darts), Kevin Garcia & Eddie Dootson, Joe Price & Kenny Murphy, John Bowles & Colin Rigby, Eddie Dootson, John Kilkenny and Kevin Garcia (17 darts) were all successful on the oche.

The Millfield at home to Widnes RUFC took the first game through Keith Horabin. Andy Griffiths then levelled for the Wids.

The Millfield rallied taking four in a row through Ronnie Greylish, Dave Sutton & Ronnie Greylish, Alan Sutton & Chris Taylor and Keith Horabin & Ray Dutton to secure victory.

The Wids recovered a point through Jordan Davies only to see Ian Wall take the penultimat­e game for the Millfield, adding to their already-winning total. The Wids’ Ros Davies won the final contest.

Simms Cross Institute at home to the Mill Brow SC did not have the best of starts as the visitors’ Paul Linger and Brian Spruce both won their matches.

The Stute recovered a point through Andy Abbott only to see the Brow’s Neil Platt & Chris Bright, J Baines & Tommy Owen and Eric Peel & Paul Linger take the match.

The Stute were in a no-win situation, but they still claimed the next two games via Glyn Owen and Brian Abbott, whilst J Leacy took the final game for the Mill Brow SC.

The Wellington at home to Mersey Hotel had a really good night as they took all nine games in a powerful performanc­e.

John Glover, Anthony Hall, Karl Whitfield, J Lewis & Lol Fonterigo, Ste Whitfield & Karl Windisch, Anthony Hall & J Holden, Karl Windisch, Ste Whitfield and M Tyrer all triumphed in their respective contests.

Widnes Bowling Club at home to the Majors Arms won by default as the visitors failed to turn up for the contest. ● More from the league on pages 60 and 61.
