Benefit concert to raise repair funds for Widnes Tennis Academy
A CHART-TOPPING band and a singer will perform at Widnes Tennis Academy for a show to help raise funds for urgently needed repairs to the clubhouse floor amid fears it could close.
The Fortunes and Warringtonborn Faith Small are due to play at the Highfield Road venue on Saturday, April 22.
An academy spokesman said the clubhouse has begun to develop faults over the past few years.
The spokesman said: “The club is now left with a situation ● whereby the money for these repairs needs to be raised urgently, failing which there is a real possibility that the club may need to close due to safety concerns.
“This would be a serious loss to the local community.”
The show will be held in the club’s large indoor area and state-of-the-art sound and lighting equipment will be hired with experienced engineers helping.
Centre administrator and show organiser, Trevor Payton, said: “The Fortunes, who enjoyed enormous success throughout the 60s and 70s, are still in great demand all over the world.
“They have appeared in Halton on a number of occasions over the years and have always attracted very large audiences.
“We hope the community will support us by buying tickets for what promises to be a terrific night’s entertainment.
“Together with Faith Small, this show offers a rare and exciting opportunity to enjoy not one, but two very high quality acts, right here on our doorstep.”
The academy currently has a membership of more than 250, the majority of which are youngsters.
It offers people of all ages and abilities the opportunity to learn and develop their game in a custom-built venue.
Tickets for the show cost £12 for adults and £6 for under 16s.
