B-rilliant success in cup

-

ON Monday night in the Widnes & District Darts League, the Jack Wilcox Cup Finals (three-a-sides) sponsored by the Wellington Inn were played at the Wellington Inn.

In the first quarter-final the Wellington ‘A’ took on Halton Stadium ‘C’ with the Stadium quickly taking all three games and the match through John Kilkenny, Colin Rigby and Joe Price.

In the second quarter-final, Halton Stadium ‘A’ facing Widnes Bowling Club ‘B’ made it two in a row for the Stadium as Kev Garcia, Eddie Dootson and Alan Magee (17 darts) claimed all three games.

In the penultimate quarterfinal, Millfield ‘C’ played Wellington ‘C’ and fell short of the mark as the Wellington took the first game through Karl Windisch, which was then added to by Anton Conroy securing a semi-final spot. Billy Fox’s success for the Millfield was little more than a consolation.

In the final last-eight clash, Halton Stadium ‘B’ went through to the semi-finals by default as the Majors Arms failed to show.

In the first semi-final, Halton Stadium ‘ C’ came head-to-head with fellow teammates Halton Stadium ‘B’.

But any hopes they had of taking the bragging rights were swiftly squashed as the ‘B’ team’s Alan Clark and John Bowles (14 darts) took the first two games to book the first final spot. John Kilkenny’s 15-darter ensured the ‘ C’ team were not whitewashed.

In the second semi-final, Halton Stadium ‘A’ made it an all-Stadium final at the expense of the hosts, Wellington ‘C’ winning all three games and the match through Kev Garcia (16 darts), Alan Magee and Eddie Dootson.

In the final, Halton Stadium sides ‘A’ and ‘B’ had a tussle as it went right down to the wire.

The Stadium ‘B’ took the first game through John Bowles in a close contest, despite his opponent Kev Garcia hitting a 180.

However, with Eddie Dootson claiming the next game the score was level again leaving the silverware resting on the final game.

And with a strong performance including a maximum, Kenny Murphy claimed the game to secure the silverware for Halton Stadium ‘B’.
