Kingsway boxers hit fine form

-

KINGSWAY Boxing Club’s Cameron Lewis and Sonny Lawson put in impressive performances on Friday night on an excellent evening of amateur boxing consisting of 15 bouts, hosted at Alford Hall in Warrington by Hook & Jab Amateur Boxing Club.

Competing in his third skills bout, Sonny faced an opponent from the host club and took the excellent improvement he has shown in the gym of late into the ring with him.

A fighter who is usually happy to box off the back foot, Sonny on this occasion found a forward gear and at times looked a different proposition to the one seen in his two previous contests.

Although there was no winner or loser, the three rounds were keenlycontested in what was an even affair, and the referee complimented both boxers on the skills that they displayed in the ring.

For the third time in the month, Cameron found himself taking on a boxer from the host club – and he made it three wins in a row, having previously been victorious in bouts in Wolverhampton and Liverpool.

Showing greater mobility and hand speed against an opponent who was strong and prepared to trade punches in order to gain the centre of the ring, Cameron took the first two rounds before coming out at a blistering pace in the final stanza.

Cameron landed several heavy shots that brought about the referee’s intervention, and subsequent end to the contest. ● Boxers from the club are due to be in action again on March 16 at an event scheduled to take place at Crosby Comrades Club in Liverpool by North Mersey ABC. ●
