Fans raise £725 for Gracie

-

FOOTBALL fans from neighbouring rivals Runcorn Linnets and 1874 Northwich raised £725 in support of a brave youngster with terminal cancer.

Supporters showed their backing for five-year-old Gracie McCall and Brain Tumour Research by reaching in their pockets at Saturday’s (March 11) league match between the two teams.

The campaign was launched by 1874 goalkeeper Greg Hall, a teaching assistant at the Gracie’s school in Withington, Manchester.

The proceeds came from the sale at Saturday’s derby game in Winsford of replicas of the bandanas Greg has been wearing for recent matches, paying £10 into the fund on each occasion, plus a half-time collection and various donations, including contributions from two other Hallmark Security League clubs Maine Road and Padiham.

A Linnets spokesman said: “The support provided by both sets of fans was superb and a cheque for £725 will be presented by 1874 to Greg so that he can in turn pass it on to Gracie’s family.

“1874 Northwich FC thank fans attending the game, which visiting Linnets won 4-1, for contributing to the appeal, Runcorn Linnets FC and everyone whose generous donations have resulted in raising such a tremendous amount.

He added: “Further donations can be made through www.justgiving.com/fundraising/GraciesGoal

“Payments from Linnets fans can be marked “Runcorn Linnets supporting Gracie’s Goal.” ●
