Soroptimists to showcase work
A WIDNES women’s organisation will be holding an event in May for residents to find out more about their work.
Soroptimist International (SI) have been active in the town since 1944 and meets every month at the Everglades Hotel.
The organisation is active in more than 100 countries and has more than 3,000 clubs working together for women and girls.
Since the inception of Halton Child Contact Centre in 1994, the Widnes group has volunteered at every session.
Ongoing projects include members knitting for premature babies at Warrington Hospital, making twiddlemuffs for those with Alzheimer’s, Nightstop, Toilet Twinning and supporting work of Scouts and Guides.
A spokeswoman said: “International and federation projects are part of our worldwide aspect as are our Club Friendship Links with Bulgaria, Ireland, Canada and America, giving us more opportunity to be involved.
“Working closely with other partners increases our knowledge.
“We also enjoy the local and international friendships through communication and travel.
“We fundraise at our social events and have fun, eat drink and chat.
“Friendship being the operative word that has kept the club active, sociable and well informed.”
For more information about the group’s work, a meeting will be held at the Everglades Hotel on Monday, May 8, from 3pm to 7pm.
