Tributes to crash victim
AHEARTBROKEN family paid a touching tribute to a Widnes man and former Runcorn high school pupil who died after his car crashed into trees in Halewood.
Stephen Lunt, 27, was driving along Higher Road, Halewood, at about 3.30am on Saturday, March 11, when police said his Vauxhall Astra car left the road.
A number of flowers and handwritten cards were placed at the scene.
The groundworker’s mum described him as a ‘larger than life, happy-go-lucky lad’
His mum Gail Lunt said: “All our lives are devastated. There’s a hole in my heart that will never be filled. He was larger than life and everyone who knew Stephen loved him.
“He went to the Grange School, Runcorn, and even though we had moved away to Halebank he still kept in touch with his friends.
“He was so happy then and had a really good group of mates. They were mischievous teenage lads but they were always laughing.
“In Halebank he was liked by everyone, he was a happy-go-lucky lad and was always happy to help anyone. He was always there for me, he was my rock, my strength, my best friend – he was my son.”
Stephen was pronounced dead at the scene and the eastbound carriageway of Higher Road was closed while investigations were carried out.

Mrs Lunt added: “He was great with his hands - his job was a groundworker.
“Ste always saw the fun in everything, even at work.
“He had four motorbikes and they were his pride and joy - he even kept one in his bedroom, but that was just Stephen.
“He always had our house full of his friends laughing and joking about the stupidest things.
“Stephen loved his pets, the dogs and his cat. He was a kind and caring person.”
