Bid to find bridge fall man
POLICE have confirmed that a man who fell from the Silver Jubilee Bridge over the weekend is a 25-year-old from Widnes. A Cheshire police spokeswoman said yesterday that officers received reports on a man ‘acting suspiciously’ on the crossing between Runcorn and Widnes at 4.35am on Saturday, March 18. Officers swiftly attended the scene and tried to speak to the man, who was on the wrong side of the bridge.
Police were still undertaking searches in the area as of Tuesday, March 21.
The spokeswoman said on Monday, March 20: “Shortly after their arrival, and despite the efforts of all those in attendance, the man has fallen from the bridge.
“Extensive enquiries are ongoing in the local area – including air support and the underwater search team – in a bid to locate him.” Mersey Road in Runcorn was initially closed but has re-opened.
