Youth centre has a revamp

-

YOUNG people have renovated a Runcorn youth centre as part of Cheshire Fire And Rescue Service’s 12-week Prince’s Trust Programme.

The team had to complete a community project and picked The Youth Federation and Canal Boat Adventure Project based at The Lord’s Taverners Woodside Youth Centre on Palacefields Avenue.

Thirteen budding DIY buffs designed and painted the main hall, kitchen, café, toilet and entrance area, to brighten and freshen up the facility.

To help to fund the project the team bag-packed shopping at Runcorn Asda to buy paint and equipment.

Halton mayor Ged Philbin attended for the ribbon cutting and the work was unveiled in front of dignitaries and Cheshire Fire And Rescue Service (CFRS) staff.

The Prince’s Trust programme is led by CFRS and gives young people between the ages of 16 and 25 the chance to learn skills, complete qualifications and gain greater self-confidence.

The main focus is on team work so those taking part are looking for placements in a variety of roles in the borough.

A course spokeswoman said ● that over the 12-week course the young people look to push themselves physically and mentally.

Jason McTigue, Prince’s Trust programme manager for the team, said: “The programme aims to move young people into full time employment.

“By doing this community project it helped them to not only gain practical experience but also skills in how to project manage and budget.”
