Tremendous Potts-shot helps ladies’ seconds end season with draw

-

Neston Ladies III 1 Runcorn Ladies II 1 A TERRIFIC goal from Megan Potts earned a point for Runcorn Hockey Club ladies’ second team in their final game of the campaign against Neston ladies’ thirds.

Runcorn began the game strongly, but were undone when the home side netted first in open play.

However, the goal did not faze Runcorn and they replied with a super strike from Potts who beat the Neston goalkeeper with a smart turn of speed.

Runcorn kept battling hard with their strong defensive trio of Lisa Snelson, Shauna Mark and Laura Wade keeping Neston at bay.

The visitors finished the first half strongly with chances falling to Jayne Bond and Lauren Bond but they were unable to find the net.

Neston attacked hard after the interval but Runcorn stood firm at the back with Amy Milne starring in her debut as goalkeeper.

Both teams were kept from scoring again as the exciting and evenly-contested match finishing at a well-earned draw.

Player-of-the-match honours were awarded to Lisa Snelson who used her experience to her advantage against a younger Neston team.

However, all of the Runcorn ladies’ second-team played well and this energetic game was a positive way to end their season. ● Runcorn Hockey Club ladies’ second XI: ( back row, from left) Shauna Mark, Laura Wade, Grace Ward, Christine Holmes, Leah Challoner, Lisa Snelson & Debbie Smith; ( from left) Lucy Collins, Lauren Bond, Jayne Bond, Amy Milne, Megan Potts & Sophie MacKenzie.
