Two charged over stabbing in street
TWO men have been charged with affray and possessing a chisel in connection with an investigation into a suspected stabbing in Runcorn.
A Cheshire police spokeswoman said officers were called to reports of an altercation on Bridgeway West in Windmill Hill at 3.20pm on Sunday.
Upon arriving they found a 21-year-old man with a ‘ minor puncture wound’ to his leg.
Police made two arrests in relation to the incident and later tweeted that the incident involved a chisel and a golf club.
Michael Worrall, 32, of Westwood, Windmill Hill, Runcorn, and Kurtis Crabb, 21, of Bridgeway West, have been charged with affray and possession of an offensive weapon – a chisel – in a public place.
Both have been released on conditional bail and are due to appear at North Cheshire Magistrates’ Court on June 14. ●
The spokeswoman said the man with the stab wound declined medical assistance.
The incident came just days after Cheshire police launched a county-wide crackdown on suspected knife crime as part of the force’s ‘ StreetSafe’ initiative.
Other unconnected knife incidents in Runcorn in recent months have included a convicted paedophile being knifed in Murdishaw, a man being injured in a suspected stabbing on the Bridgewater Canal towpath in Runcorn Old Town, a 33-year-old man was stabbed in Halton Brook during an aggravated burglary on March 7 and a woman was arrested and released without charge after a 30-year-old man was stabbed in the chest and a 65-year-old man and two 17-year-old boys also suffered ‘minor’ injuries during a blade frenzy on Union Street on February 24.
On Tuesday, Runcorn police tweeted that a man wanted for shoplifting had been arrested and found to be in possession of a knife.
