Helping our future stars

-

A PROJECT combining rugby league and health and wellbeing awareness for children and parents in Halton has been launched by Widnes Vikings.

Future Stars provides boys and girls of primary age the opportunity to play and train like their heroes at the home of the Vikings under the supervision of the club’s community coaching team.

The initiative will feature regular appearances from Vikings first team stars to inspire participants.

Future Stars will offer a fun and exciting environment for children of all abilities to develop their passing, catching, kicking, tackling and try scoring abilities at Select Security Stadium.

The Vikings team will also embed healthy lifestyle sessions into the programme for both participants and parents as part of its partnership with NHS Halton Clinical Commissioning Group.

A Vikings spokesman said: “This innovative approach is designed to promote health and wellbeing, on and off the pitch.”

‘Future Stars’ will take place Friday evenings between 4.30pm and 5.15pm for reception and Year 1 children.

Year 2 and 3 children can attend from 5.30pm to 6.30pm, while those in Years 4 and 5 have a session planned from 6pm to 7pm.

Participants can enter via Stadium Fitness and all children will need to wear suitable clothes and boots while bringing a bottle of water and piece of fruit.

Future Stars run in six week cycles with the next programme starting on Friday, May 12.

It will run on each successive Friday until June 9.

The week programme costs £4 per week, with each child receiving a free SkyTry T-shirt.

Future Stars is open to both non-playing and playing community club players.
