IN BUSINESS Apprentice bricky wins top accolade
RIVERSIDE College brickwork student and Harry Fairclough Construction Ltd apprentice Jordan Ireland is celebrating after becoming Senior Northwest Champion at the Guild Of Bricklayers North West Competition.
Held at The City Of Liverpool College, Jordan triumphed over competition from other colleges to claim the title after displaying a high level of precision and technique.
Competitors were given a detailed job plan which they had 10 minutes to study, then had six hours to construct the requirements of the brief.
Following his victory, Jordan was awarded the Guild Of Bricklayers Shield, bricklaying tools and prize cash.
He also secured a place to rep- resent the North West in the national finals which will take place at Derby College on June 21.
Darren Moore, Riverside College construction and engineering programme area leader, said: “Jordan’s performance in the competition was fantastic – he worked to a very high standard throughout and produced a top quality job. Jordan should be very proud of his achievement.
“I am very proud to see our name next to Jordan’s on the shield.
“Congratulations must go to his employer Harry Fairclough and his college teacher Sam Heyes for the fantastic support and training that has turned him into such a talented bricklayer.
“Jordan will now undergo further training at Riverside College to prepare him for the national final. Myself and everyone at the college wish him all the luck in the world.”
