Halton swimmers deliver some illuminating displays in Blackpool
HALTON Swimming Club sent a young team to the Blackpool Rocks meet held at the Palatine Leisure Centre.
This meet proved to be very popular and turned out to be very competitive for the club’s young swimmers but this did not hold them back as they produced some great performances and in turn collected numerous personal best times and medals.
Leading the way for Halton was 10-year-old Rhys Croasdale who competed in the 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle, 50m, 100m and 200m butterfly, 100m and 200m individual medley, 50m and 100m backstroke and 50m and 200m breaststroke.
Rhys collected gold medals in the 100m and 400m freestyle and the 200m butterfly, silver in the 200m breaststroke and 200m individual medley and bronze in the 200m freestyle.
The majority of swims resulted in personal best times and to top the weekend off Rhys won the overall best boy award in the 10-year-old boy category.
Beth Howard-Hughes swam in the 400m freestyle in a time of 5:34.58 but just finished outside of the medal positions in fourth place but claimed a fine gold medal in the 200m individual medley in a time of 2:56.85. She also took part in the 200m butterfly for the first time and put in a great performance finishing in second place and in turn collecting the silver medal in a time of 3:08.12s.
Sam Hyland swam in the 50m breaststroke and put in a great performance to finish with a time of 49.58.
This fine time earned Sam the silver medal in the nine-year-old age category. Sam also competed in the 50m backstroke finishing in seventh place clocking 46.41.
Sam Shurie had a busy weekend swimming in 11 events. He swam in the 50m, 100m and 200m and 400m freestyle, 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke, 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke and the 100m individual medley. Sam put in a great performance and carried on his terrific improvement of late producing nine new personal best times.
Ruby Pritchard also had a hectic schedule swimming in ● 11 events too over the weekend. She performed brilliantly in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle, 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke, 50m butterfly, 100m and 200m individual medley and the 50m and 100m backstroke. Ruby finished the meet with seven new personal best times.
Cerys Neil competed in nine events which included the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 50m and 200m breaststroke. Cerys finished in the top 10 in a very competitive age group in the 100m freestyle in a time of 1:27.05, 50m freestyle clocking 38.63 and the 200m breaststroke where she touched home at 4:07.73.
