Morris holds his nerve as Cricket Club edge Hough Green in classic

ON Friday evening in the Widnes & District Darts League, the Mill Brow SC RTB League continued.

In Division Two, Widnes Cricket Club visiting Hough Green SC took the first three games through Ste Heesom, Ben Hewitt (19 darts) and Dan Mellor.

Hough Green responded, taking two games via Tony Barker & Keith Glover and Dave McIntosh & Russ Hardman (19 darts) to narrow the gap.

The next game came for the Cricket Club, courtesy of Ben Hewitt & Billy Cain.

Hough Green fought back to level at 4-4 through Keith Glover and Tony Barker.

With all resting on the final game, Rob Morris claimed the match for Widnes Cricket Club.

The Birchfield at home to the Goldmine in a top of the table encounter conceded the first game to Sean Bell.

However, they soon took the lead thanks to wins recorded by Carl Bryan and Trevor Chadwick.

In the pairs, the Birchfield pressed on with further successes for Matty Fisher & John Leather and Keith Allen & Trevor Chadwick (16 darts.

The Goldmine needed to get back in the game and did so through Phil Corless & Sean Bell in the final pairs contest and back in the singles through Phil Corless.

However, the Birchfield’s Matty Fisher secured the penultimat­e game and the match to seal two vital points in the title and promotion race.

It was of no consolatio­n as John Taylor gave the Goldmine the final game.

The Mersey Hotel at home to the Majors Arms, took the points by default as the Majors failed to field a side on the night.
