Early blitz sets stage for victory

HFH U13 48 Thatto Heath U13 0 HALTON Farnworth Hornets U13s were back in league action against their counterparts from Thatto Heath and were very quick out the blocks scoring six first half tries.

Evan Kilgannon switched play to the blind side and quick hands put Sam Haynes over in the corner.

Hornets’ build-up play was excellent all game as the decision making from half-backs Adam Jack and Lewis Hughes helped showcase Harry Keeley’s blistering speed as he stormed in for a first half hat-trick.

Man-of-the-match Ben Lane threw a couple of big dummies to burst the line and score from halfway and Haynes got on the outside of his centre to fly in from 30 metres out to make it 32-0 at the interval.

The second half was a lot scrappier as Halton had a player sin-binned for 10 minutes and worked hard to keep Thatto out.

The choice by the opposition for man-ofthe-match, Haynes, scored two more identical tries to make it for four for the day before Lane completed the scoring as Aiden Doolan broke the line and passed to the supporting George Delaney who again drew the defence and passed to his teammate for another great team try.

Charlie Glover kicked five goals and Hughes booted over one to make the final score 48-0. Culcheth U9 9 HFH U9 Reds 10 THE Reds claimed their first win of the season after a very tough game at Culcheth.

Star of the show and man-of-the-match Zak Bennett scored an incredible eight tries – certainly a team record and perhaps a club record too.

Certainly worthy of mentions are Paul Stevens in his first-ever game of rugby and also to Daniel Houghton on his first game of the season after suffering a broken leg in pre-season training.

Top tackler was Charlie Fallon with again another team record of 20 tackles in a game.

The coaches’ award winner was Harvey Wycherley for a strong attacking game.

Overall, every player made a fine contribution.
