2015 candidates return to fight new election
● FIVE candidates will contest the Halton parliamentary seat in next month’s General Election.
Voters across Hale Village, Widnes and Runcorn will head to the polls on Thursday, June 8.
Derek Twigg – who has held the Halton constituency since first ● being elected in 1997 – will be standing once more for Labour.
Matthew Lloyd has been announced as Conservative candidate for the seat, while Ryan Bate will be standing for the Liberal Democrats.
Glyn Redican has been nominated as UKIP’s candidate while ● Vic Turton will contest the election as an Independent.
All five men stood for their respective parties in the 2015 General Election.
On that occasion, Mr Twigg stormed to victory with 28,292 votes, the largest number since he was first elected in 1997. ●
Mr Lloyd came second with 8,007 votes while Mr Redican attracted 6,333 votes to finish third in the pool.
Mr Bate narrowly edged out the Green Party’s David Melvin with 1,097 votes to 1,017 while Independent candidate Mr Turton attracted 277 votes.
The Greens have not ● put forward a candidate in the Halton constituency for this year’s vote.
Prime Minister Theresa May announced the snap General Election last month and Parliament was dissolved at 12.01am on Wednesday, May 3, after Mrs May met the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
