First Class is... first class

FIRST Class delivery in the postcode covering Halton exceeded its target with more than 90% of mail received the next working day.

Royal Mail’s Quality Of Service report for the 2016-17 financial year showed that the company exceeded its target for delivery in the WA postcode area.

A total of 93.1% of First Class mail was delivered the next working day across the area.

The WA8 postcode covers Widnes, while much of Runcorn is covered by WA7.

Nationally Royal Mail it exceeded its First Class mail target of 93%, delivering 93.1% the next working day.

It also exceeded its Second Class mail target of 98.5%, delivering 98.9% of this mail within three working days.

During the year’s fourth quarter, nationally Royal Mail also delivered 93.1% of First Class mail and 98.8% of Second Class mail on time.

For 2016-17, at an individual postcode level, 110 of 118 postcode areas met or exceeded their targets over the year.

Allowing for the margin of error in sampling, 117 of 118 postcode areas were within the target range.

Royal Mail operations director Geoff Braden said: “We are very proud of the service we offer our customers. Our postmen and women deliver to some of the most challengin­g performanc­e targets in Europe.
