Police warning after thefts of motorcycles

-

MOTORCYCLISTS are being urged by police to ensure their bikes are kept secure following a spate of thefts in Widnes.

Officers have received four reports of motorbikes being stolen from homes over the past few weeks.

Officers are reminding residents to be extra security conscious to deter thieves.

Chief Inspector Richard Rees of Widnes Local Policing Unit said: “We have had a number of thefts of motorbikes over the last few weeks and are urging the local community to be vigilant and take extra security measures to protect their motorbikes.

“There are a number of ways to protect your bike being stolen such as keeping it out of view and securely locked away when you’re at home and not leaving it in isolated or dimly lit places. Following these simple security checks can go a long way in helping to keep your property safe and free from opportunists.”

Residents are encouraged to use an additional form of security such as a good lock and chain, brake disc lock and a good alarm and immobiliser system. Owners are also ● advised to consider fitting a paging alarm which alerts by SMS when a bike is under attack, to not leave their bike on show, and ensure garages are securely locked and alarmed.

Residents are advised by police to not leave their keys in an easy to find place in the house, to mark their bike, and use a U lock attached to a grounded anchor to secure their property.

When parking in public, riders are also advised to choose a street or area that is well lit.
