Students sample life in the world of work
STUDENTS at Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy (OBA) in Runcorn have been given a taste of adult life on their work experience placements.
An OBA spokeswoman said the Year 10 pupils have been undertaking roles throughout the academic year to suit their interests and strengths.
It is hoped the skills and experience they gain will help them to stand out to employers.
Thirty-one students attended work experience last term, with 21 organisations offering placements.
Lucy McCoy and Luke BurgessWhitehead spent the day at Warrington Peace Centre with football coaching company SG International as part of their work.
Lucy said: “It was a great experience and it has made me want to pursue a career in sports coaching even more than before.”
Denika Lunt, who spent two days with Anita’s Blossoming ● Flowers And Gifts, said: “The placement was definitely a good confidence builder.
“I learned new skills and enjoyed dealing with the customers.”
Alex Murray and Samuel Baker spent the day at O2-Telefonica on an IT placement.
Alex said: “The placement has made me more confident and I learned loads about IT.”
Amy Jarvis, OBA careers co-ordinator, said: “Participating in a work experience enables our students to be valued members of our community.
“It also assists them in choosing the right sector to work in when considering a career path in the future.”
