Students sample life in the world of work

STUDENTS at Ormiston Bolingbrok­e Academy (OBA) in Runcorn have been given a taste of adult life on their work experience placements.

An OBA spokeswoma­n said the Year 10 pupils have been undertakin­g roles throughout the academic year to suit their interests and strengths.

It is hoped the skills and experience they gain will help them to stand out to employers.

Thirty-one students attended work experience last term, with 21 organisati­ons offering placements.

Lucy McCoy and Luke BurgessWhi­tehead spent the day at Warrington Peace Centre with football coaching company SG Internatio­nal as part of their work.

Lucy said: “It was a great experience and it has made me want to pursue a career in sports coaching even more than before.”

Denika Lunt, who spent two days with Anita’s Blossoming ● Flowers And Gifts, said: “The placement was definitely a good confidence builder.

“I learned new skills and enjoyed dealing with the customers.”

Alex Murray and Samuel Baker spent the day at O2-Telefonica on an IT placement.

Alex said: “The placement has made me more confident and I learned loads about IT.”

Amy Jarvis, OBA careers co-ordinator, said: “Participat­ing in a work experience enables our students to be valued members of our community.

“It also assists them in choosing the right sector to work in when considerin­g a career path in the future.”
