Apprentice brickie wins second award
AHALTON trainee brickie has triumphed for the second time in weeks at a regional contest.
Jordan Ireland, who attends Riverside College, won the SkillBuild North West bricklaying competition, hot on the heels of being named ‘senior champion’ at the Guild Of Bricklayers North West event. Jordan, who is an apprentice with Harry Fairclough Construction Ltd claimed the double victory after showing ‘outstanding’ performance, a college spokeswoman said.
She added that he showed a high level of skill and precision to win the competition and take home the gold medal. his second competition success in a matter of weeks.
His exciting year ahead now includes places in the Guild Of Bricklayers national finals in June and the SkillBuild national finals in November which could earn him a place on Team UK at WorldSkills UK.
Darren Moore, Riverside College programme Area leader for construction and engineering, said: “I am over the moon with what Jordan has achieved. Winning one major competition was great news but to complete the double is an outstanding achievement.
“He has approached both competitions with a very professional attitude and it has paid off for him.
“We are all very excited about the national finals and I am sure Jordan will do well, both the college and his employers Harry Fairclough Construction are very proud of what he ● has achieved.
“I must say a big thank you to Jordan’s employer Harry Fairclough Construction for allowing him to attend extra training sessions in preparation for the competitions.
