McPartland the hero for the Stute in super showdown with Bowler

ON Friday evening in the Widnes & District Darts League, the Mill Brow SC RTB League continued.

In Division One, the Mill Brow SC at home to Halton Stadium started badly as they conceded the first four games to the Stadium’s Kenny Murphy, John Kilkenny, John Bowles (18 darts) and opening pair, Kenny Murphy & John Bowles (13 darts).

The Brow recovered a point through Chris Bright & Kevin Helps, only to see the Stadium’s Jack Kelly & John Kilkenny take it back and seal the match win.

Kevin Helps added a further point to the Brow’s tally, but there was no stopping the Stadium as Jack Kelly (18 darts) was victorious in the penultimat­e game before Dave Powell took the final game for the Brow.

The Millfield at home the Corpy Club slumped to a big opening salvo conceding the first five games to the visitors’ Neil Platt, Dave Pickles and Jeff Thompson in the singles, followed by Dave Pickles & Ian Argent and Alan Pennington & Jamie Anderson in the pairs.

The Millfield were now in a no-win situation, but they took the the next game when Alan Sutton & Ronnie Greylish won their pairs contest.

Mike Ruane added further to the Corpy’s already-winning total before the Millfield took the final two games via Alan Sutton and Chris Taylor.

Simms Cross Institute at home to Widnes Bowling Club opened with a win from Glynn Owen only to see Joe Batty level for the Bowler.

The Stute may already be relegated but were still up for a fight taking three in a row through Brian Abbott in the singles and John Leacy & Dave Evans and Tony Green & Glynn Owen in the pairs.

The Bowler, also in a determined mood, responded with three in a row as Joe Batty & Scott Grady in the last pairs game followed by Tommy Robertson and Scott Grady left the match on the proverbial knife edge as all rested on the final game.

The match was resolved as Ged McPartland struck the final blow to take the match for Simms Cross Institute. ● Division Two round-up on page 51.
