A PROSPECTIVE MP has vowed to put ‘all my energy’ into fighting for Halton if elected next month.
Matthew Lloyd has been named the Conservative candidate for the Halton parliamentary constituency.
He stood for the seat in 2015 coming second to Labour’s Derek Twigg who was elected as MP for the area which covers Widnes, Hale Village, and large parts of Runcorn for the fifth time.
Mr Lloyd – who was born and raised in Warrington – attracted more than 8,000 votes two years ago.
Since attending Cardiff University, Mr Lloyd has had a successful career in IT which has taken him around the world and has spent time living in Hong Kong, Sydney and Boston.
He said: “I now own my own software business which I have built into an international company with offices in the UK, US and China.
“These are the skills the country, and Halton, need to ensure we make a great success of the fantastic opportunities Brexit presents.
“This part of England was built on world-class businesses trading globally.
“We now have the opportunity to once again look outwards beyond our shores and succeed exporting around the world. And I know that successful businesses rely on well-paid, respected, workers protected by strong employment laws.”
Mr Lloyd – who has also been a councillor on Cheshire East Council and a school governor – said that to make the ‘bright’ future a reality, the country needs the ‘strong and stable leadership’ which he believes only Theresa May can offer.
He added: “If you elect me as your MP on June 8 I will put all my energy into fighting for Halton.
“I will work with, not against, the – hopefully – re-elected Conservative Government to make sure we get the infrastructure and well-paid jobs we need in Widnes, Runcorn and Hale.
“Only by building a strong local and national economy can we afford the world class education, NHS and social care services we need and deserve.”
