Foodbank receives £500 boost
WIDNES Foodbank has been given a cash boost towards the opening of a new centre.
A total of £500 has been pledged by homebuilder Taylor Wimpey North West.
Since being established more than four years ago, the initiative has served almost 100,000 meals to people across the region and has plans to open its new site this year.
Widnes Foodbank project co-ordinator, Clare Bedford, said: “This donation comes at a great time for the foodbank. It will really help us to open our new centre at ‘ Crossing Point’, the former St Marie’s Parish Hall on Lugsdale Road, and continue the wonderful work we do in the area.
“The money will be put to great use and will help us to buy new storage units to hold the food generously donated by the local community and give the centre a fresh coat of ● paint to make it a more inviting place for food bank clients. On behalf of everybody at Widnes Foodbank, a big thanks to the Taylor Wimpey team for its generosity – it means so much to so many people.”
Open for between two and three hours for four days week across five centres in the town, the Widnes Foodbank has more than 200 dedicated volunteers who give up their time each week to ensure it works seamlessly for residents in need.
Taylor Wimpey North West sales manager, Stuart Craig, said: “The work that everybody does at the Widnes Foodbank to support those in need within its community is something we champion here at Taylor Wimpey.
“We are continually looking to support the great work of teams and individuals in the areas in which we build, which is why we knew we wanted to get in touch and help Clare and the team however we could.
“We’re delighted to have donated £500 and that the money will be put to such good use.”
