Invitation to sport awards
INSPIRATIONAL individuals and teams from a Widnes neighbourhood are being sought for recognition in this year’s Knowsley Sports And Culture Awards.
The ceremony is a celebration of the rich culture and sporting talent that exists in Knowsley – which includes Cronton in Widnes – as well as hard-working volunteers who give up their time to give others opportunities.
Those in Cronton who know someone who deserves recognition for their achievements in sport or culture, or who has inspired others to do so, are being encouraged to nominate them for a prize.
A Knowsley Council spokeswoman said: “We are looking for the most deserving, talented and committed individuals or groups who have made a real contribution to sports or culture in Knowsley.
“Knowsley’s Sports And Culture Awards recognise people who live or work in the borough who are committed to sports or culture, and who make a real difference to local communities.
“It could be an up-and-coming athlete competing at school level, an artist with exceptional talent, or somebody who gives up their time to help others develop their skills – by coaching or running a community group, for instance.”
Categories include club, artist, and cultural volunteer of the year.
Last year’s award winners included volunteers, coaches, junior achievers, school sports teams, sports clubs and people who have fought back from illness.
The awards take place on Friday, October 13, at Knowsley Leisure And Culture Park.
Nominations must be submitted by Friday, September 15.
