Fisher reels in Ryan to make a perfect start to his competitive career
HALTON boxer Max Fisher claimed a hard-fought win on his competitive debut last Tuesday, when he boxed on a show held by the acclaimed Golden Gloves Club at Fusion Nightclub in Liverpool.
The Kingsway ABC fighter took on Birch Green ABC’s Ryan El-Assaad, who was also making his competitive bow.
The two were not strangers to one another, having previously faced-off in a keenly contested skills contest in February.
And they started where they left off, with both boxers taking turns to move to the centre of the ring in an effort to gain control of the contest during a fast-paced first round.
The round saw some quality work from both lads, as they took turns to throw multiple punch combinations at each other. The second round was a more attritional affair, with the fighters taking each other on at close quarters in an effort to outmuscle one another with neither combatant prepared to give ground.
The third round saw something of a return to the quality seen in the first, and both lads gave it their all in an effort to secure the judges’ decision, which went in favour of Fisher. The Halton fighter displayed slightly better footwork, mobility and hand speed in achieving his first win against a strong opponent, who put in a very solid effort of his own.
Also competing during the week, albeit at different shows were Will White and Sonny Lawson who both took part in skills contests.
Will took on Mason Harris, a tall and rangy southpaw from Bridgewater Salford ABC who proved to be a difficult opponent at times.
However, Will gave a good account of himself, showing patience and tactical awareness during the contest.
Sonny also pitted his wits against a southpaw in Ethan Wright from Northwich-based New Era ABC, in what was a very evenly-contested match.
It was an impressive display from Sonny who continues to improve with every outing, and there is the possibility of a first competitive bout for him with the same opponent next month.
