FORTY determined pupils from a Runcorn school took part in walks around Clitheroe in Lancashire as part of their practice Silver Duke Of Edinburgh (DOE) Award expedition.

Students from Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy camped at Waddow Hall Girl Guiding site, a 17th century manor house overlooking the River Ribble which is set in 178 acres of enchanting countryside.

The group took part in a successful Bronze DOE Award expedition last year.

Their evenings were spent huddled around a campfire built by teacher Dave Mercer and everyone felt relaxed and happily shattered as they took part in activities which included games and a singsong around the fire.

Zaina Porschke, one of the DOE coordinators, said: “All the participants worked so hard and had a great time.

“I would like to thank all the students who took part for their resilience, determination and their good humour.

“They also displayed excellent first aid skills when one group member had a fall so the staff were very proud of them all.

“We all had a great time and the weather was glorious throughout the weekend, which was very fortunate.

“The students are now preparing hard for their final expedition which will take place in a few weeks.”
