-

ON Friday night, the Mill Brow SC Three-A-Side Cup competition was played at the Mill Brow SC.

In round two, the Birchfield took on the Wellington. Carl Bryan gave the Birchfield the first game, then Anthony Hall (14 darts) levelled for the Wellington. John Leather then took the final game and the match for the Birchfield.

The Millfield ‘C’ took on the Cricketers Arms ‘B’. The Millfield ‘C’ took all three games and the match through Chris Taylor (13 darts), Alan Sutton and Billy Fox.

Widnes Bowling Club took on Simms Cross Institute. Tony Green put the Stute on to the scoresheet first.

Alex McGill then levelled for the Bowler. The outcome was then decided in the final leg, as Dave Evans took the game and the match for Simms Cross Institute,

Widnes Cricket Club took on the Corpy Club. Billy Cain took the first game. Jamie Anderson levelled for the Corpy. Jeff Thompson then added a further win and the match for the Corpy.

The Mersey ‘A’ took on the Wellington ‘A’. The Wellington proceeded to take all three games as Barry Highfield, Ste Whitfield (14 darts) and Lol Fonterigo were all successful.

The Cricketers Arms ‘A’ faced the Mill Brow ‘B’. The Brow took all three games via Carl Hackney, Chris Bright and Dave Powell.

The Majors Arms ‘A’ and the Corpy Club ‘A’ both progressed to the quarter-final stage without throwing a dart as their opponents, Millfield ‘A’ and Mersey Hotel ‘B’, failed to turn up for the finals.

In the quarter-finals, the Wellington ‘A’ played Simms Cross Institute ‘A’ – and they found themselves outdone as the Stute’s Tony Green and Mick Cullen landed the first two games, so it was scant consolation as Ste Whitfield won the final game for the Wellington.

Birchfield ‘A’ up against Corpy Club ‘A’ suffered a similar experience as the Wellington with the Corpy’s Mark O’Connor and Alan Moran sealing their fate, but it got worse as Jimmy Schofield added a third win to dish out a 3-0 blanking.

Majors Arms taking on Corpy Club ‘C’ claimed the opening game through Mark France. ●

But this was not going to be a pushover as the Corpy levelled through Jamie Anderson. The outcome was quickly decided as Nicky Duff edged out his opponent to put the Majors into the last four.

Millfield ‘C’ taking on Mill Brow ‘B’ conceded the first game to the Brow’s Carl Hackney as he went up in 17 darts. But Alan Sutton then went one better to level the match with a 16 dart display.

The final game went the way of Millfield ‘C’ to win the contest as Chris Taylor stood firm to win his clash.

The first semi-final between Millfield ‘C’ and Corpy ‘A’ was a close-fought match, with Mark O’Connor taking the opener for the Corpy only to see the Millfield’s Chris Taylor level it all up again.

But his effort was in vain as Andy Ruane took the final game and the match for the Corpy ‘A’ booking their place in the final.

The second semi-final between the Majors Arms ‘A’ and Simms Cross Institute ‘A’ saw the Stute take an unassailable lead with two in a row from Tony Green in 16 darts and Dave Evans.

The Stute did not have it all their own way as Nicky Duff took the final game for the Majors but it was merely a consolation victory.

In the final, the Corpy ‘A’ started well against the Simms Cross Institute ‘A’ as Alan Moran led them in the first game.

However, the Stute who had played well throughout the night, were not to be denied as Dave Evans levelled and Mick Cullen added the final game to take the Mill Brow SC Cup for their team.
