Allen’s dedicated work with Widnes recognised with special award

-

MORE good news emerged from Widnes RUFC when Allen York collected the Lancashire Volunteer award at a ceremony at Leigh.

He was nominated by the club for his outstanding work with the junior section.

Among his many tasks, Allen has set up and monitored the ‘Sale Sharks 100 Club’ and regularly organises training for the club by Sale Sharks Community Department.

Allen also does all the fixtures for the junior section which is no easy task as well as taking charge of the U10s where he is a very pro-active coach.

This season, Allen has helped junior chairman Sharon Miller by taking on the training co-ordinator role which helps the club develop the coaches to train and coach the children with a positive approach. And, if all that is not enough, Allen also helps set up the school tag rugby festivals and speed camps which have been very successful. He also organises Tuesday training at the club with Steve Soley for the Year 6, 7 and 8 age groups which helps in the recruitment of young players.

Junior chairman, Sharon, said: “I would just like to say that Allen fully deserves this award and is a real asset to the club. He is positive, pro-active, and very hard working, and takes his voluntary position at the club very seriously.” ● Meanwhile, Widnes have announced that the club’s annual general meeting will take place at Heath Road on Thursday, June 29 at 8pm. ● Lancashire Volunteer award winner Allen York is pictured ( left) with Widnes president Paul Newall.
