Great Scott as two brothers and dad are victorious in Arms’ success

AFTER their shock home defeat last week in the top flight of the Runcorn & District Bowling Associatio­n, Tigers Head roared back to winning ways with a full house 168-79 triumph against Kingsley ‘A’.

No fewer than four players won in single figures for the Tigers with Fred Worrall (21-1), Rob Winnington (21-4), Mark Winnington (21-5) and Kevin Duncalf (21-9) all impressing.

Section One leaders Pavilions ‘A’ took on Hazel Pear and ran out the winners 150-114. Brian Furber (21-7), Chris Price and Bob Johnston (both 21-9) led the way for the Lions. The best replies for Hazel Pear came from Joe Tomkinson and Alan Dean who both won 21-14.

Second-placed Kingswood ‘A’ faced Grapes ‘A’ in fourth and just managed to get over the line with a hard-fought 142-137 victory.

John Hoey’s 21-6 was the best winner for Kingswood while Garry Grounds’s 21-9 success led for Grapes.

Section Two table-toppers Subscripti­on travelled to take on Kingsley ‘B’ and returned with a fantastic 166-116 victory. Alan Guest with a 21-8 win and Don Bryning’s 21-10 led for Subscripti­on.

Ray Pickett (21-19) was the only reply for Kingsley.

Second-placed Norton Arms ‘B’ took a trip over the bridge to take on Widnes outfit Corporatio­n and came away with a fine 151-118 win.

Brothers Neil and Keith Scott led the way for Norton (both 21-12) and their father, Joe’s 21-20 success made it a terrific treble for the family.

The outstandin­g player on the night was Corporatio­n’s Derek Mellor who won his game 21-4.

Kingswood ‘B’ in third spot visited bottom of the section Pavilions ‘D’ looking to win but went down to a 143-131 loss. Pete Dumbill (21-9), Keith Lee (21-10) and Maurice Melvin (21-11) led the way for Pavilions. The best replies for Kingswood came via Derek Bowker and Shaun Donnelly who both won their matches 21-13.

Section Three pacesetter­s Halton RBL ‘B’ took on newcomers Manley and ran out the victors 148-127.

Mike Ellison’s 21-8 was the best winner on the night.

Second-placed Grapes ‘B’ lost ground on the leaders going down 148-137 at home to Goshawk.

Tracey Marshall’s 21-11 was the best winner for Grapes while replying for Goshawk was Tony Galley with a 21-7 success.

Castle Park moved into third place after a 135-104 victory over Pavilions ‘C’.

Lynn McDonald and Peter Snelson (both 21-6) led the way for the Castle while the best winner on the night went to Pavilions’ Diane Worthingto­n who recorded a 21-2 victory.
