Medals and tremendous times aplenty for Halton swimmers at gala

HALTON Swimming Club had a small team competing in the Prescot & Everton Spring Gala.

Fifteen-year-old Leevi Gumbs took part in the 50m and 100m backstroke, 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle along with the 100m butterfly.

Leevi collected a gold medal in the 200m freestyle and bronze medals in the 50m backstroke and 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle, and finished just outside the medals in the 50 freestyle and 100m backstroke.

Leevi also finished the meet with four new personal best times.

Ten-year-old Ruby Pritchard took part in the 200m individual medley, 200m breaststro­ke, 100m freestyle, 200m backstroke and the 100m backstroke.

Ruby finished the meet with new personal best times in the 100m backstroke and 200m breaststro­ke where she knocked more than five seconds off her previous best time.

Nine-year-old Cerys Neil had a great meet in which she competed in the 200m individual medley, 100m and 200m breaststro­ke, 50m freestyle and the 100m backstroke.

Cerys was racing in some of the events for the first time finished the meet with gold in the 100m and 200m breaststro­ke and bronze in the 200m individual medley.

She finished just outside of the medals in the 50m freestyle but she did register a new personal best time in the 200m breaststro­ke, clipping more than two seconds of her previous best mark.

Luke Nisted, 20, struck gold in the 100m freestyle and won a silver medal in the 50m breaststro­ke.

His times of 57.49 and 34.66 respective­ly were narrowly outside his current personal bests.

Twelve-year-old Alfie Mather finished in second place in the 50m breaststro­ke in a new personal best time of 43.97 and collected a bronze medal in the 100m freestyle, also securing a new personal best time of 1:11.58.

Joshua Howard-Hughes, 12, won gold in the 200m butterfly while his 10-year-old sister, Bethany, recorded a new personal best time in the 100m freestyle, trimming more than a second off her previous best time.

Thirteen-year-old Jessica Connolly took part in the 100m backstroke where she clocked a new personal best time of 1:20.85. She also claimed a bronze medal and another PB in the 50m backstroke with a time of 38.23.

Jessica also chopped a massive 10 seconds off her previous best mark for the 400m freestyle time and clipped more than five seconds off her 200m breaststro­ke time. ●
