Golf club thugs in attack on victim

TWO thugs armed with a hammer and a golf club attacked a 24-year-old man in a Runcorn park leaving him with a lump on the head.

Cheshire police said the victim was with friends in Phoenix Park at night when the attackers appeared from a tunnel.

They had a short conversati­on then became verbally abusive and turned violent.

One of the thugs then pushed the victim to the ground and kicked him in the head and hit his leg with a golf club.

The 24-year-old scrambled to his feet and fled.

Chief Inspector Sarah Heath said a helicopter was deployed to search for the victim after the incident because he was not answering his phone and nobody was at the scene when officers arrive.

She said the man had suffered a lump on the head.

Potential were spoken to.

The incident is reported to have happened at Phoenix Park between Castlefiel­ds and Windmill witnesses Hill at about 12.46am on Saturday, June 17.

A Cheshire Constabula­ry spokesman said the thug with the golf club was described as white, about 5ft 11ins tall and had blonde or ‘grey-gingery hair’. ●

His accomplice with the hammer was about 6ft tall, stocky, white and had a tattoo on his face.

The matter is being investigat­ed as section 47 assault, assault occasionin­g actual bodily harm.
