Team signs up to support young people
● A PARTNERSHIP between Widnes Vikings and Young Addaction is benefitting young people across the borough.
The Vikings Learning Centre joined forces with the organisation in January.
Young Addaction provides friendly and expert advice on drugs and alcohol for young people aged between 10 and 19, or up to 25 for those with additional needs.
The partnership is offering education, advice and guidance around a varying amount of topics include sexual health and positive relationships, education and drug awareness delivered by the Amy Winehouse Foundation.
Students also have the opportunity to access positive activities and the Duke Of Edinburgh Award.
As part of the launch, the Learning Centre students visited Velocity in Widnes with Young Addaction ahead of their partnership going forward in the future.
Caroline Atkinson and Joanne Illidge came to talk to the learners about sexual health education and positive relationships, in an informative and engaging session.
Student ambassador Joshua Corless said: “Caroline and Joanne were great when they came in and spoke to us about sex education.
“These types of sessions are important as they teach you about things that you wouldn’t usually learn about in the classroom so that can only be a benefit to us, and hopefully there is more to come in the future.”
Liam Clark is head of education at Widnes Vikings.
He said: “I’d like to thank Caroline and Joanne for coming on as part of our partnership with Young Addaction.
“These initiatives are of massive importance to those on the course, and they are engaging enough for the students to listen and actively partake in them and ensure the key messages that are being promoted are taken away with them once they’ve finished.”
