Grapes enjoy fruitful encounter with Kingsley to move up to second
ON the league front in the Runcorn & District Bowling Association, not a lot of games took place due to a downpour on Tuesday night.
Section One saw Grapes ‘A’ move into second place after a 160-106 victory against Kingsley ‘A’.
Leading the way for the Halton Road outfit were Tony Sandbach (21-4) and Mike Hagan (21-9).
Dave Ewart’s 21-15 win was the best reply for Kingsley.
The only other top flight game to take place was Hazel Pear against Egerton Memorial, the Pear running out the winners with a tremendous full house triumph of 168-81.
No fewer than five players won to single figures – Paul Haddock (21-6), Alan Worrall and Dave Potts both (21-7), Joe Tomkinson (21-8) and Jimmy O’Brien (21-9).
Section Two pacesetters Pavilions ‘B’ took on fourthplaced Norton Arms ‘B’ and ran out the winners 157-116.
Impressing for Pavilions were Steven Bate (21-6) and Lew Darlington (21-11) with the only reply for Norton coming via Marcus Solonecki’s 21-10 success.
Second-placed Subscription ‘A’ took on Willow Brook and in a close encounter were victorious 138-127.
The outstanding player on the night was Willow Brook’s Dave Edwards who won his match 21-6.
Third-placed Overton faced Widnes outfit Corporation and triumphed 155-104.
Leading the way for Overton were Mark Clein (21-5) and Colin Norton (21-6).
Mike Ward’s 21-13 win was the best reply for a weakened Corporation side.
Section Three leaders Halton RBL ‘B’ were up against third-placed Egerton ‘B’ and won 137-110 with four players winning their matches to single figures.
John Lawson (21-4), Peter Hollett (21-6), Anne McKeown (21-8) and Mike Ellison (21-9) all caught the eye while the best reply for Egerton was recorded by Ritchie McGarrigle who won his game 21-4.
Second-placed Grapes ‘B’ travelled to take on Rock Park but were undone 137-125, this despite an outstanding performance from the Grapes’ Bob Phillips who won his contest 21-1.
Impressing for the Rock were Joan Fletcher and Christine Wood who both won their encounters 21-5. ● Secretaries are reminded if League fees are not paid by July 31 fines will be issued.
