Witton Albion 2 RUNCORN LINNETS’ pre-season campaign continued on Saturday when they claimed an excellent 4-2 victory over Witton Albion at the Millbank Linnets Stadium.
A pair of goals from a trialist inside the opening 20 minutes handed Linnets an early advantage in the encounter against the side who ply their trade in the Evo-Stik League Northern Premier Division. ●
The first goal came on 17 minutes via a powerful header from close range. And two minutes later the lead was doubled through a terrific shot from just outside the penalty area.
Eight minutes before the interval it was 3-0 to Michael Ellison’s team, Zac Aley firing home from inside the 18-yard box.
Witton pulled a goal back early in the second period but barely 60 seconds later Stuart Wellstead made it 4-1 with a cheeky tap-in after the Witton goalkeeper had fumbled the ball.
The visitors cut the arrears with a second goal just before the hour but that turned out to be the final goalscoring act of the game.
