Bears U10s stay perfect after surviving bruising test with Oldham
West Bank Bears U10 28 Oldham St Anne’s U10 10 WEST Bank Bears U10s made it a remarkable 17 wins from 17 games on Sunday with a hard-fought victory over an aggressive Oldham St Anne’s side who did everything possible to knock the talented Widnes youngsters off their game.
Despite some very questionable actions by the away side, particularly in defence, the Bears were able to score five well-worked tries with just two tries in reply.
Half-back Kian McGann scored a hat-trick of tries taking his season’s tally to a fantastic 42 in 19 games.
He was followed on the scoresheet by impressive front-rower and man-of-thematch Josh Swindley, as well as strong running centre Billy Keeley.
It was the performance of the team that impressed the most, however, against opposition that just wanted to spoil the game, and at the final whistle it was the superb skills of the home side that won through.
Conversions were kicked by Oliver Stankevitch, George Hughes, Harry Hughes and Michael Lawton, who also worked his socks off to top the tackle count. A final score of 28-10 was a fair reward for the home side’s effort.
