Kids’ charity in the money thanks to fans
WIDNES Vikings fans have raised more than £600 for a charity which uses the power of rugby to support disadvantaged children.
The Vikings Sports Foundation, the club’s charitable arm, held a fundraising event for Wooden Spoon at the recent Betfred Super League home fixture against Wakefield Trinity.
West Bank Bears U7s generously backed the effort and volunteered their time to support with a bucket collection.
The fundraising follows the Vikings participating in the Spoon Rugby Drive project for a second year.
The partnership involves Vikings coaches visiting special schools across Halton and the surrounding area, delivering fun touch rugby sessions.
It also offers schools the opportunity to participate in festivals at the Halton Stadium.
The charity has also supported schools in the borough including funding new sensory rooms last year.
Vikings commercial and community director Richard Munson said: “Wooden Spoon are a brilliant club partner, so we were keen to support them with this fundraising initiative.
“Engaging children in exciting projects, such as our sports sessions in local special schools, is invaluable and we look forward to continuing our successful partnership.
“On behalf of Widnes Vikings, I would like to thank West Bank Bears for offering their time and showing how a local community can come together for a worthy cause.” ●
