ADEFINITIVE tribute to one of the biggest bands in rock music will be performing in Runcorn next month.
Stipe will recreate the alt-rock awesomeness of R.E.M. at The Brindley on High Street.
The act will perform on Saturday, September 23.
A Halton Borough Council spokesman said the group is the ‘definitive tribute’ to one of the biggest bands in rock music, whose albums such as Green and Automatic For The People made them household names.
The spokesman said: “They visit the hits and the gems taking every opportunity to perfect the songs.
“In performance Stipe make R.E.M.’s charismatic music their own.”
R.E.M. built a towering back catalogue which reached from the addictive highs of Shiny Happy People down to the reflective darkness of Everybody Hurts, covering all else in between.
An early R.E.M. album loaned to Stipe’s lead vocalist, Richard Southern, worked its magic and convinced him to make a first visit to see the band in concert.
He said: “That was the best live performance, ever. The music of R.E.M. left such an impression on myself that it will ● always be a part of my life.” Richard went on to form Stipe in 1996. R.E.M. was one of the first alternative rock bands.
They called it a day after 15 albums but not before Michael Stipe, on hearing Stipe perform live, said ‘these guys are awesome’.
Tickets are £12.50. For more information call 0151 907 8360 or visit www. thebrindley.org.uk
