Tigers take out the Lions

ON the Runcorn & District league front, section one saw the clash of the Titans, with leaders Pavilions A taking on last season’s champions Tigers Head at Sandy Lane.

In a very hard fought encounter it was the Tigers that took the win 151-147. Tigers had a 13-chalk advantage after winning three of the first four games but the Lions turned it around with the second four. Despite a captain’s performanc­e from the Lions’ Neal Ocego, they fell four chalks short.

Norton Arms moved into fourth place after a 143-132 victory against Helsby C, best winner on the night Dave Gribbin 21-8. Kingsley A remain at the bottom of section one after losing 136-126 at Egerton Memorial. Ernie Ellis won 21-1 and the best reply for Kingsley was Gary Greenhalgh’s 21-4.

Section two leaders Pavilions B travelled to take on second placed Subscripti­on, Subs running out the winners 142-138.

John Owen was the outstandin­g bowler on the night with 21-4.

Third placed Kingswood B made up ground on the two teams above them after a 146-120 win at Willow Brook. Leading the way for King’s was Graham Donnelly’s 21-7, while Dave Ryan and Jane Yelland both had 21-9. The best reply for the Brook came from Dave Edwards, 21-7.

The best win in section two were Owen and Peter Dumbill (Pavilions D), both 21-4.

Section three table toppers Egerton B travelled to take on third Grapes B and came away with a fine 153-119 victory, Ritchie McGarrigle 21-4 and Pat Cooney 21-8. Best reply for Grapes was Ray Shrimpton’s 21-10.

Second placed Halton B visited fourth placed Castle Park and ran out the winners 142-116 with no fewer than three players winning in single figures, Peter Hollett Jnr 21-6, Doug Kewley 21-7 and young Kayley Welch 21-8. Lorna McGibbon notched a 21-8 for Castle.

Best win in section three was Joan Fletcher (Rock Park) and Mike Price (Crowton), both 21-3.

Best win overall last week was the 21-1 for Ernie Ellis (Egerton Memorial). ●
