Clinical Parklands hold up the Developmen­t

PARKLANDS 4 WIDNES DEVELOPMEN­T 0 PARKLANDS progresed to the semi-finals of the Derk Roylance Widnes Challenge Cup as they got the point they needed to get through Group 2.

On the 20-minute mark Parklands No.9 Jay White latched on to a floated ball and fired a volley to make it 1-0.

Widnes Developmen­t’s young stand-in keeper ensured it wasn’t until the 72nd minute that Parklands finally got the clinching goal as full-back Adam Donohue raced down the left flank, beating a number of Widnes players along the ● way to place his shot into the bottom corner.

Parklands increased the tempo of the game and it was 3-0 minutes later when Callum Barrow finished off after a fine a solo run, then Jake Larkin completed the scoring from Barrow’s corner.

Both teams now turn their attention to their league openers on Saturday follwed by a semi-final in the Widnes Cup for Parklands next Wednesday.

ST MICHAELS 3 HALEBANK 2

St Michaels also progressed to the last four after Terry Cartwright slotted in a penalty following a handball.

Halebank quickly responded and equalised on 15 minutes from a super free-kick by Lee Marshall. Halebank had their tails up and then 15 minutes later took the lead with a super volley from Connor Speed.

In the second half St Mikes kept pressing and were rewarded when defender Ste Brandreth put the ball across the area and in the melee of players, it deflected off a Halebank player and into the net for 2-2.

With 10 minutes remaining on the clock, St Mikes found the winner when Connor Wood slotted home from 10 yards.

Halebank did apply more pressure but the defence held out.
