Record-breaking results at OBA
STUDENTS at Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy (OBA) in Runcorn set a record-breaking set of results for the school in this year’s A Levels.
Senior staff declared their success ‘phenomenal’, as the class of 2017 produced a clean sweep with a 100% pass rate and 80% achieving A* or A at A Level or Distinction* or Distinction in applied learning subjects.
Their career hopes are now a step closer as many head off to university in their chosen course up and down the country while others have secured apprenticeships and employment.
Subjects awaiting them include biological sciences, biomedical science, maths, computer science, adult nursing, psychology, business studies, media studies, sports therapy, social work and history.
Paul Finnigan, head of sixth form, said every student who applied to university has been offered a place.
Among those celebrating their successes were Danielle McGough who was delighted with an A and two Bs, as well as James O’Day who received A*, A and B grades in history, sociology and catering and will now be going on a gap year.
Also jumping for joy were Ebony Gumbs who scored four A*s in a range of dance and sport examinations, Jack Chambers who was thrilled with his A*, A* and A grades in ICT and photography and Luke Waterworth who scored A*, A*, A* and A* in graphics, ICT and business studies.
Luke will be pursuing an apprenticeship, as will Filip Reppel who scored A*, A* A* and A* in a range of ICT and business studies subjects.
Felip’s apprenticeship will be with Warrington-based company Adept4.
Mr Finnigan said: “These students worked so hard to achieve these excellent results and we are all really proud of them.
“They are delighted to have done so well after all their hard work and to have secured their ideal place at university or in employment – they are justifiably thrilled. ●
“On behalf of everyone at OBA, I wish them well and am sure they will achieve even greater success in the future.”
John Rigby, executive principal, said: “OBA is delighted with the students’ successes and there were many happy faces as they opened their envelopes.
“I would like to thank all their parents and carers, as well as OBA’s amazing teaching and pastoral staff, for all their hard work, support and dedication.
“Well done to each and every one of our former sixth form students and the very best of luck; OBA is proud to have played a part in your success and we will enjoy hearing about your many future achievements.”
In addition, Year 12 students are now well on the way to A Level success after picking up their AS results.
Matthew Kyprian achieved A and A in maths and psychology, Niamh Allanson who scored two As in maths and further maths and Emma Bygrave who scored an A in history.
These students are in OBA’s Oxbridge and medical cohorts and have made a very good start on the path to achieving their aspirations. ● ●
