Long serving army cadet is honoured
AN ARMY cadet volunteer from Frodsham has been recognised. Sergeant Major Instructor Paul Brentnall, 57, has received HM Lord-Lieutenant of Cheshire’s Certificate of Merit in recognition of more than 14 years’ service to young people in his community.
The prestigious award was presented to Sergeant Major Brentnall at the Cheshire Army Cadet Force’s (ACF) annual camp in Yorkshire.
The presentation was made by the Cheshire cadets’ honorary colonel Brigadier John Thomson who is also a deputy lieutenant for Cheshire.
Time was made in the cadets’ packed schedule to allow for a quick parade to mark the ‘momentous’ occasion.
The ACF said Sergeant Major Brentnall joined the Cheshire cadets in 2003 after previously serving in the Regular Army as a member of the Royal Dragoon Guards, an armoured cavalry regiment.
He quickly proved himself as a highly skilled, knowledgeable and committed instructor obtaining the rank of sergeant major instructor in 2008.
The ACF added: “He has continued to serve with distinction in a variety of appointments including company sergeant major and detachment commander of Frodsham detachment. In addition to these, he serves as Cheshire ACF’s county signals officer and the driving force behind the ever increasing role signals and radio communications play in cadet training.” ●
