Marathon in Kira’s memory
A RUNCORN man has announced he is running next year’s London Marathon in aid of a charity set up in memory of a young woman who was killed by asthma
Anthony Gill will be taking on the 26-mile challenge on April 22 to raise cash for the Kira Gwillym Foundation.
Kira, of Runcorn, died when she was just 20 years old on March 28, 2015, due to severe asthma, which was not diagnosed until late.
Mr Gill, who is a comedian and magician by day, is aiming to raise £250 for the foundation set up her memory, which aims to boost awareness about asthma and its potentially deadly effects as well as provide support and advice for families and patients.
Information provided by the charity said Kira had been unwell for some times with symptoms such as a persistent cough and breathlessness and had been on return visits to her doctor, being treated for issues including a chest infection and sinus problems.
Kira was referred to an asthma nurse during the last month of her life and received a brown preventative inhaler but died from an asthma attack three days later.
Her family launched the foundation following her death to try to prevent others from suffering a similar tragedy. Asthma is caused by inflammation of the breathing tubes carrying air in and out of the lungs
