A LAME DUCK PRIME MINISTER?

- Name and address supplied

THERESA May has claimed that she will continue as Prime Minister until 2022. It’s rather like Margaret Thatcher saying in 1987 that she would go ‘on and on’.

Yet just as Maggie was kicked out by her own MPs, who realised that she was leading them to disaster because of the poll tax etc, many of Theresa May’s own supporters describe her as a zombie, a dead politician walking, and having no future.

I love the description in the London Evening Standard, edited by former Tory Chancellor George Osborne, which said she was staggering on like the living dead in a second-rate horror film https://www.standard.co.uk/comment/ comment/evening-standard-comment-britaindeserves- better- than- this- horror- showa3623806.html - and said that Britain deserves better than this horror show, as our economy falls behind and our role in the world is diminished.

When even Conservatives say that about their leader, there’s no reason for the rest of us to support her, as the NHS descends into crisis, crime rises and Brexit negotiations are going nowhere fast while we move inexorably towards the cliff edge.

The Tories are frightened of making any progress towards agreeing the exit bill as even a penny or a Euro will turn the Tory right wing into apoplexy.

When Theresa May was in Japan to talk about trade deals post-Brexit, the main attention was not on jobs and businesses, it was whether she could hang on.

The Japanese must have been unwilling to make concessions or work very hard on a deal with a Prime Minister who is a lame duck.

It’s not even as if Theresa May has the endorsement of the public – in the election she did not win a majority of the MPs in mainland Britain, and is only propped up by bribing hardline Irish MPs with money from taxpayers here on the mainland.
