Repeat prescription changes
REPEAT prescriptions can no longer be ordered from pharmacies in Runcorn.
The service was ditched in September and is to come into force in Widnes in November.
NHS Halton Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) said requests for repeat prescriptions will now only be accepted by GP practices given by the patient themselves, their carer or a family member or friend.
Orders for repeat prescriptions can be ordered online after showing two types of identification to register, or by dropping off or posting the tick slip.
Some patients will be exempt including those who receive their medication in blister packs, live in care homes or have been identified by their GP as unable to order medicine themselves and do not have a carer, relative or friend to ● order on their behalf.
Halton CCG said the changes were happening to encourage direct communication between patients and their GP so they can better decide on the correct regimen.
It added that large amounts of unused medicines were being built up under the previous system and presented a safety risk.
Medics also hope the changes will help to slash the £700,000 bill that wasted medications cost the CCG every year.
Residents who feel they might need support in ordering their prescription are advised to contact the NHS patient advice and liaison service by calling 0800 218 2333, emailing mlcsu.pals@nhs.net or by post to: PALS (NHS), Bevan House, 3rd Floor, 65 Stephenson Way, Wavertree, Liverpool, L13 1HN.
