Bridge caught on drone cam
● DRONE footage has been released showing progress on the Mersey Gateway bridge as it neared completion during the summer.
Shot from above the estuary, the video shows the completed deck, its three pylons and 146 cable stays on clear display.
A Merseylink consortium spokesman said the finishing touches including street lights, barriers and waterproofing are now being added before the sixlane highway can be opened to traffic.
Construction machinery and vehicles can still be seen working on the bridge deck, but the spokesman said the gigantic bridge building machines that installed the deck and the 125m-tall cranes that lifted the materials for building the pylons have been removed, allowing the first unrestricted view of the bridge.
He added that layers of road surfacing have been laid on most sections and is nearly complete and the bridge remains on track to open by mid-October, weather permitting.
Other drone operators are reminded of regulations to govern their use and that unauthorised flying in a public place or around a construction site could lead to the pilot being arrested.
Once opened the bridge will be a tolled crossing as will the Silver Jubilee Bridge once it reopens after spending up to 12 months closed for maintenance and refurbishment work.
